Losing weight changed my life

I weighed 210 pounds when I was sixteen years old. I hated my weight but couldn’t muster up the self-control to do something about it. So I bought most of my dresses in the maternity shops just so I could have some pretty dresses since size 16 clothes were pretty ugly. I didn’t realize it until years later looking through pictures taken of me that the dresses always hung lower in the front since they were dresses made for pregnant women.

I fell in love when I was heavy with an older man who was twenty one years old. He said he loved me and didn’t mind my weight. Then one day he said he was leaving me because I was fat. I was devastated. I almost quit eating so as to lose weight as quickly as possible. I lost several pounds by the time I saw him again and my boyfriend said I looked good and we tried again to get back together.

I found out, however, that he was seeing several girls besides me so I was bold enough, even at that young age, to tell him good-bye. It was time to get my life together. I went to a doctor and he put me on a diet. I lost 37 pounds and looked pretty good for my high school graduation pictures.

During the next few years I continued losing weight and got down to 150 pounds. I always wonder what my life would be like now had I not lost weight. I do know I most likely wouldn’t have the confidence I do now. How could I if I were fat? Losing weight not only gave me confidence. I showed myself that I can follow through and achieve big things if I am determined. It changed my life, really, because I know I can count on myself. I like knowing that.
